Accessibility
Ensuring easy access for everyone
We are committed to making our Web site accessible to all users. To achieve this, we have implemented a number of features including the following:
- optimised colours and contrast values
- separation of content and layout
- hierarchical structures
- clear alternative text for images
- keyboard-only navigation
- a clear and consistent navigation system
- programming based on the latest HTML5 standard
Compliance and legal requirements
Our Web site follows the Web Accessibility Initiative's (WAI) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. It conforms to the WCAG 2.0 AA level. This means that people with sensory and motor impairments can access its content, understand information provided and use its functionality. The international WCAG 2.0 standard also underlies the Austrian E-Government Act (E-Government-Gesetz) and ensures compliance with the Federal Act on Equal Treatment of People with Disabilities (Bundes-Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz).
Accessibility audit
accessible media, an Austrian association promoting Web accessibility, has evaluated our Web site. Users with disabilities were involved in the evaluation. Based on this evaluation, the Web site of BFI Österreich meets WCAG 2.0 conformance level AA and even implements some level AAA requirements.
Exceptions
Some of the older services available on our Web site are not yet fully accessible. This concerns promotional videos, which are provided as media alternatives for text, and PDF documents created before October 2015.
Ongoing improvements
We are working on improving the accessibility of our Web site. As a priority, all new PDF files will be made fully accessible. Attention to accessibility will also be paid whenever other new services are created.
